Canadian cast of characters

Well, I used a lot of the suggestions that came my way from that post the other day! I was pretty pleased with the turnout of readers for that question, I must admit. I guess it's because you hear a lot that people don't give a darn about history in this country, if depressing yearly polls from the Dominion Institute mean anything, but it's clearly not the case among my livejournal followers. You guys are great!

I had to do a general sweep that involved a good range of places, professions, backgrounds and time periods, so you know, not everyone's favorite author is going to be in there but I sure did like the range in suggestions. Looking at it now I wish I had someone from the NWT (not one! for shame) and New Brunswick. Stompin Tom is from New Brunswick but he's also sort of from everywhere.  I could have put the Irvings in there, I think they control history in NB as well as anything else.

I was all crazed out with strep throat while I did this, but listening to Radiolab shows and a burning passion for Canada I guess(?) kept me going.  You can find the image in today's National Post, along with an article about the Historica/Dominion merger! Interesting stuff.

It's not -real- reading

Just so you know, [info]sblmnldrknss knows that "comic books aren't challenging."

Reading should only ever be at age level or above and though she claims to read EVERYTHING in one comment, she is quick to later inform us that, in fact, she never reads children's fiction for fun because it is beneath her.

Apparently "if you're over, I don't know, 12, reading Harry Potter doesn't 'count' as reading anymore than reading People magazine 'counts' as reading." An interesting judgment from someone who has never read the books at all.

In that same vein, one doesn't have to actually KNOW about something in order to deem it unworthy in her world. she has never seen an episode of the Simpsons, but can claim with all confidence that it is juvenile because it involves animation. Also, all video games are childish.

And yes, this is the same person who would let a teenage daughter die after a botched abortion because abortion is wrong and getting her child medical help would make her morally culpable for the abortion.

NO, MIKI, SIT DOWN - THEY'RE JUST CHARACTERS ON A TELEVISION PROGRAM, I hear you yell.

Well, you know what? The series eight premiere of Spooks was more emotionally satisfying than any relationship I have and will ever be in, so there. My immense thanks go out to [info]jimmyjack for downloading it and letting me crash his Glenhuntly pad to reimmerse myself in the world of espionage and really ridiculously good-looking people. His new television's pretty fucking sweet, by the way. Kudos, babe.

TONIGHT, WE DINE ON LOBSTAAAAAAAAAAH!

Nov. 6th, 2009 | 06:43 pm
posted by: [info]shaysdays

Seriously, they were $7 a tail at the store, and I can't resist cheap tail.

Never having cooked lobster before*, I was glad to find this. That marinade they suggest is so damn good (even substituting dill for paprika) that I kinda of want to make a drink out of it. Why don't any drinks contain butter**?

Had a slow but good day- only forgot one thing, and it wasn't a time crunch one. The Wii broke, and we have to send it back. It'll cost $85, boo, but that includes shipping back and forth and another year warranty, yay. And I think I made the Nintendo guy's day, because I was feeling a little silly and kept adding asides like, "No, they don't take Discover, they're Communists," "Alright! The Fed-Ex guy is much cuter than the UPS one!" and "Well, I've tried everything short of taking the disks out, blowing on them, and putting them back in***."

Okay, off I go to cut up some star fruit to mix with the snap peas. OMG I want to eat dinner so bad why is he not home yet it is 5 after 7 already I am so hungry.

Oh, and I finally put together that Ikea TV stand that has been sitting on the floor forreeeeever because we were waiting for each other to do it. Usually I'd put in a hearty LOL here but instead I will show you a blurry picture, so that you may envy my shelf and my hat:

*At least, as an adult- I have fond memories of eating things out of the bay my dad caught in the crab pots when I was younger. I've slightly horrified myself remembering this, knowing what the bay looks like these days.

** Except this one which sounds intriguing but not really scale-downable.

***Yes, the LAST video game system I owned before the Wii was a N-64. I can still remember the music from Bugs Bunny's Birthday Bash.

Quick comics time

Nov. 5th, 2009 | 08:26 pm
posted by: [info]beatonna

What a week! Strep throat, broken website, a commission that took like eighty days (in one week!) to complete, jeepers.

Well it can only mean one thing.

It's quick comics time again, and done by request as is custom (it's about the only time I formally take requests anymore and only on livejournal, you are my special little guys!), so ante up all yous

edit!

Whoa I should mention, I think some people have the idea that I will do all the requests! There are always way too many, that is impossible, I just do some. But I read them all, and some of them will be turned into bigger comics, you never know.
